Going abroad for Christmas - Caribbean?

amidaiwish · 01/07/2008 08:57

My parents have asked me to look into all of us going away for a week for Christmas.

There will be 14/15 of us including 3 small children.

I'm thinking Barbados/Antigua for a week but also should look at places a bit nearer but still warm.

has anyone any good suggestions?

Thanks in advance

The Caribbean is a long way to go for just a week - although it would be fabulous!

yes esp with a 2 and 4 year old in tow.

but will Egypt/Dubai etc be totally non Christmassy?

Where else could we go that would be warm?

It would then be the canaries.

I have a friend who goes to the caribbean every year. She has a 4 year old and swears by either Barbados or St Lucia. The Almond resort in Barbados is particularly good for children with the kids club.

The Caribbean is lovely where ever you go! I'm from Canada and I usually do atleast one holiday down there. However I don't go until after Feb. though...I'm too paranoid of hurricanes!

There is a FABULOUS resort in Jamaica....graet fun for a group of people. I almost had my wedding there.

There is a huge waterpark, kidclub...basically something for everyone.
I'll see if I can still find it.

thanks all...
lots still available but really expensive.

does anyone have any great recommendations for Tenerife. My parents are v fussy so it would have to be very very good 5* but welcoming to kids.

We've been looking at 5 star. Have a look at Costa Adeje which is about 20 minutes from Las Americas. It has most of the big 5 star hotels like Sheraton La Caletta, Bahia Principe etc.

Thomson holidays to packages to most of them if you look at their premium brochure or on line. You can then review them in full on tripadvisor.co.uk and either book through a TA or by yourself.

Caribbean will be fab - Antigua and Barbados are both wonderful, although transport on Antigua is a bit of a problem - taxis v expensive, bus service hit and miss, and the roads are dreadful if you're hiring a car.

Egypt is fab at Christmas - around the Red Sea - the hotels are great, and most of them do something Christmassy for the guests. We've been for the past two years, last year we took a trip to Luxor for Christmas - it was magical being in the Valley of the Kings and Temple of Karnak, even if it wasn't particularly festive!

The flight from the UK is fairly short, service in Egypt is brilliant, they love kids, and it's cheap. Sharm el Sheikh is getting a bit overdeveloped now, but there are other Red Sea resorts.
