Singapore Hotel Recommendations

Staying in Singapore for a couple of nights as a couple before heading off elsewhere. Where is best to stay please as I’d like to walk to the sightseeing places as much as possible. I’m not looking for a luxurious hotel, just something clean, central for sightseeing, near a Metro to have breakfast in and sleep, whilst having restaurants nearby.

The more I look, the more I’m confused on location. Thanks

Budget?

Nothing in Singapore is what I would call cheap.

We like to stay at Oasia Hotel, the downtown location. It’s right between 2 MRT stations. One about 50m walk and the other 6-7 minutes walk away.

It has a supermarket 200m away and a 7/11 behind the hotel. It’s a 5 minute walk to Chinatown and Maxwell Food Centre. It’s 500m from Satay Street, which sets up at night.

We do pay the extra to stay on the Club Class levels and really like it.

Download the Grab app before you go. Singapore uses Grab rather than Uber. We find it easiest to hop on the Grab app as soon as we have collected our bags and cleared customs. A fast an easy way to get to your hotel.

The Clan hotel Singapore by Far East hospitality is great, rooftop pool, great location near underground and v near to Satay Street and lots of good places to eat😋

I would second the Clan. Central location and lovely facilities. Food options nearby are amazing

We stayed at the Village Hotel Albert Court. Clean and comfortable and did breakfast and also dinner.

It was walking distance from Little India and not far from a metro station.

We stayed on a Holiday Inn on Orchard Road and found that to be really well located. I have dreams of going back to some of the “wow” hotels though!

I agree with this. The roof top pool is amazing.

Capri byFraser China Square is good - in Chinatown and close to the Metro. Rooftop pool, laundry facilities, good breakfast. Not cheap but not silly money either.

Singapore is very well connected by Metro, called MRT. When I go to Singapore, I prioritise a hotel that is right next to the MRT. By next to, I mean no more than 50 m via a covered walkway, as I am not walking more than 50 m in the sun and humid heat. Anywhere that is not accessible by MRT, I jump into a Grab taxi. The combination of MRT and Grab will give you easy access to all the sights in Singapore.

Get a 3 day Singapore Tourist Pass for about £17 and for all public transportation including to Changi Airport. You can buy 1 day, 2 day passes for cheaper. The MRT is very useful friendly and once you get the hang of it, the world's your oyster.

My favourite hotel that is relatively central and next to the MRT with lots of food choices downstairs, NTUC Fairprice supermarket and Aperia Mall 5 mins walk away is V Hotel Lavender, next to Lavender MRT. The average price per night is about £100. There is a small pool, nothing to shout about. You don't need a restaurant as there are so many food choices just outside the hotel. I like it for budget, convenience and a place to sleep. It is clean, modern, good wifi and a desk & chair for working. The hotel is on a direct MRT line to Changi Airport.

I book directly with the hotel online. The prices are comparable with booking.com and hotels.com, once you add taxes and fees. The advantage of booking direct is it is easy to make changes and can get early check in and late check out for free.

Sorry hijacking - anyone stayed at the Carlton. We are also off there in a few weeks. Thanks for the metro price. I’d already downloaded the grab app and will be getting an e sim for se Asia that covers all our destinations.

This! We also stayed here and it was perfect for what we wanted. We walked to a lot of the places we wanted to see (including Marina Bay, Clark Quay, Raffles, etc) and took the MRT which is super convenient. We are looking to return to Singapore and would gladly stay there again. We didn't upgrade but still found facilities to be great, including the pool area and open garden lobby areas.

Paradox was good

Springtimebear · 20/09/2026 16:50

Another vote for The Clan - absolutely brilliant hotel and love the location.

Needanadultgapyear · 20/09/2026 16:59

We stayed in the Jen orchard gateway, great location right above orchard road station, lift from hotel lobby to the station.

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 20/09/2026 17:06

I prefer staying in the Clarke Quay area. The Holiday Inn is basic and the Intercontinental quite nice. With luggage would use a Grab/taxi from the airport.

Recommend the Botanical Gardens

fuzzyduck1 · 25/09/2026 21:50

Marina bay sands. At least for 1 night so you can use their swimming pool.
try and find one near the hop on hop off bus stop then it really doesn’t matter where you are.
