Fun days out in Brittany

We're going to Brittany for 10 days next week, staying in a small campsite by the beach near Quimper, although we're planning to spend some days on and around the site (playing in the pool, building sandcastles etc) it would also be nice to get out and about for day/half day trips a few times.

We have two young kids (5 and 18m) so it needs to be suitable (and fun!) for them - they like rides, animals, playgrounds, soft plays, dinosaurs, trains etc - all the general kids stuff really. It looks like it's going to hot so I'm not going to drag them on long walks around towns/historical sites etc... happy kids = happy holiday in my experience.

We'll have our car, so public transport isn't necessary and the closer the better but happy to drive up to an hour (longer if it's really worth it)

Seen a few places while googling but interested in any experiences/ideas people have.

OP hope you don't mind me popping on but I'm also looking for good place to visit near Roscoff too, with 9 & 11 yo!

I heard the aquarium at Brest is meant to be really good (but that is about an hour's drive for either me or OP).

Just had a look at the aquarium - it does look good and gone on the maybe list. We took them to a small one the other day and my 18mo had a great time looking in ask the tanks and pointing out the fish.

If you think they’d like a theme park, we really enjoyed Le Récré des 3 Curés near Brest a couple of years ago. It’s quite small and very, very French - I think we saw two other British families the whole day. I think there were lots of rides for little children although do check the website! There’s also a big splash play area so definitely take swimming costumes.

Not sure how long it is to drive from Quimper, but the Lac de Guerledan has a nice beach and swimming area.

Just outside Morlaix there is a swimming pool complex with 3 pools and a water garden. 1 pool is lane swimming only. 2nd is family pool with high spiral flume and small slide with jacuzzi area and 3rd pool for young children with lots of boats and toys in. Outside a lovely, but freezing cold water garden where flowers sprinkle water at you etc. At Carantec they have a lovely beach with volley ball net on and around back by toilets a table tennis table (free but you need to take bats and ping pong ball) and nice playground with unusual climbing apparatus. There is also a platform in the EE sea for jumping off/diving. My dgs was 8 when he starting jumping off. In Morlaix there is a high aquaduct to climb up steps. There is an ice cream shop at bottom of aquaduct and Saturday they have a market. In Morlaix they have bikes for hire of all sizes and you can go along green route ( old railway lines) very safely for miles. Morlaix is about 35 minutes from Roscoff. It's well worth a visit. They have a selection of nice restaurants and little gift shops and cafes. Morlaix is also a port and you can walk all the way around it and they have gorgeous flowers all the way around.

Where are you sailing to and from OP? If it’s St Malo the Grand Aquarium there is really good, my 2 year loves it. We’ve been a couple of times on the way back to the harbour for an afternoon or evening sailing. Handy to get back to the port town early enough to not be worried about traffic, and then have something to do to kill the time, or for a leg stretch after the ferry before a long drive.

Aven Parc is fantastic, and Odet Loisirs isn’t bad either. Definitely worth checking both out.
L'Aquashow is probably the best animal attraction in the Quimper area. Les Terres de Nataé might be a bit too far afield.
Glace de Pendreos is a working farm with an ice-cream parlour, ride on tractors, farm animals and you can watch the milking if you get there at the right time.

Thanks so much - we will be near Morlaix!

From Quimper you aren’t too far from Concarneau & Pont Aven which are both fab places.

Quimper is a lovely town. Afraid I went to 3 campsites in 2/3 weeks when I stayed there so it all merges into one big French adventure that holiday.

Bon Vacances and have a wonderful time

honeyfox · 10/08/2026 20:05

I'm afraid I've no advice to offer on activities with smallies but just to say it's a gorgeous area to stay, we spent 9 days in Bénodet last year and really enjoyed it. Best of luck!

Clearinguptheclutter · 10/08/2026 20:07

Following as heading there tomorrow! Hope we all have good hols

Benodet is one of my favourite places - boat trip up the Odet?

There's a really good aquarium at Audierne, which is nearer. Also have a look at Parc A Loiser (spelling could be a bit off) Bel Air at Landudec. I like the very quirky Musee de l'Admiral at Pouldreisic, which is also a lovely beach. Quimper is a wonderful old city, as is Roscoff if you have time to kill on the way

Thanks all! A few places I've seen have been mentioned on this thread (Aven Parc, Odet Loisirs, Le Recre des 3 Cures) so good to know they're good bets and making a note of the others.

That's good to hear! We're staying the other side of the river in Sainte-Marine, but definitely plan on visiting Benodet.

My kids loved Odet Loisirs, but at an older age than yours. The difference between French and Brit H&S culture is very evident there!

Agree with PPs that the aquarium at St Malo is brilliant.
