8-10 days Rome, Naples, Ischia?

Looking at early October (flying out around 3rd), 8-10 nights depending on flights. Hoping to get flights booked this weekend but want a bit of a sense check first!

Think we probably want 4 days in Rome, maybe 3 in Naples & a night or 2 in Ischia? but can’t decide which way round to do it. Also considering Sorrento? We’d like to go to Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculaneum, Amalfi coast? Capri as a day trip but figure we could do this with Ischia? Are we trying to cram too much in or is it do-able? We’re planning on travelling by train / ferry.

Any suggestions for accommodation also much appreciated, location-wise prefer to be able to walk rather than have to get public transport everywhere. Budget is midrange hotel / B&B, airBnb rather than luxury.

That sounds quite crammed, 4 days Rome not enough, 3 days in Naples to cover Amalfi and Sorrento too short. I would pick one city for a week and cover as much as possible.

I would start with 2 or 3 nights in Rome and see Rome itself.

The train down to Sorrento early morning. Stay in Sorrento for 4 or 5 nights. From there you will be on the Amalfi coast and have a quiet base to day trip Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Naples.

I would end with 3 nights on Ischia, but really don’t think that’s enough to properly soak up the relaxing vibes.

Sounds like a lovely holiday! We did very similar twice. The first time we stayed at a very nice hotel outside Sorrento. It did have stunning views and nice amenities, but I much preferred staying in town the second time.

Thank you both! Differing opinions there 😂. Yes, it was the Naples bit I thought could be crammed, think we are happy with 3-4 nights in Rome this time though. We can always go back! Maybe staying in Sorrento rather than Naples is worth thinking about… was it easy enough to do Pompei etc from Sorrento?
