Solo holiday ideas

Hello I have a week to take on holiday at the end of June. Haven’t booked anything yet as it took a while to get annual leave approved.

I will be going solo. I’m 40. I don’t want much.
I want to go somewhere sunny in Europe.
I want a hotel/air B and B that has decent sun beds that don’t cut the back off me.

I don’t want to be out in the middle of nowhere. I want to be in/or near a city that has a lot of activities where I can meet other tourists/expats that live there/locals . A place where I can look on meet-up.com /viator/eventbrite and see activities.

any ideas please? Thanks so much

Alghero in Sardinia.

I took our 12yo to Alghero last week and I've decided to go back by myself next year.

We stayed in a holiday let in the old town. Most days we rented loungers at a beach club. It's a pretty old town. I know there's boat trips from the marina and I'm sure there's plenty of other activities.

We really enjoyed Malaga. Plenty to see, we booked a walking tour and a tapas bar tour with a small group. Also went out to other places on the train/bus. We actually stayed in an air bnb apartment about half hour walk up the coast. No idea why my post is now underlined and won’t switch back….

Istanbul isn’t too far and is fantastic. Lots of walking tours which are always worth the money. I’m sure you’ll find a nice hotel.

I liked Chania in Crete. It's a small Greek city with a new town and an old town. Airport is maybe 30 mins drive in a cab. Stayed in a B&B on the old harbour. Beach is along the beach road and has sunbeds you pay for but I'm fine with that. Beach is also sandy not pebbles. Food is great, lots of restaurants and shops that aren't just the usual lilo/beachball/rude phallus keyring ones. Long season, so it's great in September and early October too.

Have you considered a med cruise? Solos nights and dinners and you will meet people wanting to do the same excursions

San Sebastian. A bit pricey but so worth it and great for a solo traveller. You will love the place, the Concha (beach area) and especially bar/pintxo hopping in the Old Town. So charming, so vibrant, so friendly, so nice. Easy bus transfer from Bilbao.

Nice/Antibes/Menton, again gorgeous spots with everything you could want. Beach in Nice is stones, but there are lovely sandy beaches in the towns around, and a train that goes one way to to Cannes and beyond, and the other to Menton via Monaco, and onwards to Italy.

Just two of my suggestions. Less expensive areas are around Cadiz, Estepona, Tarifa, Tarragona, Valencia in Spain.

My solo trips have been to Bilbao,San Sebastian, Bayonne, Biarritz, Padova, Bologna, Salerno, Carcassonne, Narbonne, and many other places. But I am not a sun bed person, which is probably reflected in the places I go to!
