Can he go into forward facing car seat?

Hi. Ds is 7 months weighs just over 9kg has brilliant head control but can't sit unaided for long. His feet are scrunched up in his rear facing car seat and his head is at the top. We literally have to squeeze him into his seat at the mo. I know he's heavy enough to go into next seat but should we wait untill he can sit unaided for longer?? Would appreciate your wisdom on this folks.

Not sure! But would appreciate an answer as I am beginning to think the same thing!

7m way too early IMO

have you thought about getting a seat like the Britax First Class that you can use rear-facing till he's bigger and then turn round for stage 1? It's no more expensive than a normal Stage 1 seat but will give him more room than he's got at the moment without having to forward face.

yes, or get another seat, that will go rear facing, then can turn round when he's older.

for example

We already have the seat MrsBadger...it is a Britax but it's the Renaissance. It has 5 positions from upright to fully reclined. So is it best to go on age rather than weight and size then do you think?

it's about their neck and back muscles so really it's about development rather than age / weight / size.

OK, I am beginning to understand!

And even with good head control 7 months is almost certainly will be too early.

Have you seen the films (about halfway down this page showing performance of rear-facing vs. front-facing in crash tests?

hf128219 · 23/06/2008 09:02

So how old then? Please!

snix · 23/06/2008 09:08

My instructions say 9-18kg (about 9 months to 4 years) hf128219. I was just thinking with him being over 9kg and long he should probably move up but after reading this will wait untill he can sit unaided for longer.
Thanks everyone.

Snix - thanks! My dd is just 6.5kg so a while to wait!

hf128219...have just watched the films PortandLemon linked. Will definitely be waiting as long as I possibly can. Scary. xx

Most guidelines say over 1 yr and over 9kg.

Hello again! Have decided to get a new carseat for ds, have looked at the Britax one mentioned earlier in this thread but it doesn't fit my car. I really want a rear facing one after watching the links but he's just to big for the first stage ones, does anyone know of any other ones like the Britax one suitable for bigger babies please? Thanks x
