Hello

My Daughter and her friends are in the middle of a levels. Not quite ready for foreign holidays. I’m looking into Cornwall and especially Newquay. They don’t want camping and everywhere else seems not to want them. Any ideas ?

Christ, they're more likely to get into scrapes in Newquay than in a lot of places abroad!

If they want somewhere with a decent amount of youth culture that isn't a cesspit of underage drinking and antisocial behaviour, how about Falmouth, or even Penzance?

There's a YHA hostel on the outskirts of Penzance- I don't know the age limits though- some hostels won't let U18s share dorms because of safeguarding.

Oh OK, I've found this. U18s can only stay in a YHA YOUTH hostel if in a private room, it's a 24hr staffed hostel and you've filled in a parental consent form.

For fuck's sake 🙄

AirBnB might be possible, if you make the reservation for them. But I strongly suspect most AirBnBs in Newquay will have a blanket no U-18s policy.

FFS it's not THAT bad here 😄

I feel really sad for them, tbh. I was independently travelling all round Europe at the age of 16.

Personally, I think they might be better off getting over their distaste of camping, and finding a small, informal site where nobody's going to bother checking ID. (But again, I have a distinct suspicion that most of the campsites around Newquay won't allow unaccompanied U18s).

Yeah, but do you go out out in the centre of town much?

Yup. It's a bit rowdy in high summer. But no worse than other places I've lived. Maybe I'm a giant skank haha there's so many sweet little cafes and fun activities now too 😄
