Rhodes, car hire??

Planning a holiday to Rhodes (Kalathos) in May, can anyone advise re car hire? Not been before, unsure if we'll need a car. We enjoy getting out and about so would like to visit other areas too. Thanks!

DH and I were in Rhodes in April last year and we hired a car for the week as the hotel where we were staying was on a B&B basis with not many restaurant options locally, especially as it was very early in the season so we drove out most days to explore. It was cheap and the roads were easy to navigate. We stayed Kolymbia but drove to Rhodes Old Town and various other places.

In my experience you definitely need a car in Rhodes unless you are planning on staying in the one place all week .
