Luxembourg and Germany

Travelling by car from London we're considering a week in Luxembourg and maybe the Trier area of Germany next summer. Does anyone have any tips about good places to stay?

We do self catering and need three bedrooms so if you're able to recommend specific places you've stayed, even better!

Not sure if we should split our stay 3+4 days in two different places, or one week in the same place.

All opinions welcome!

Marking my spot. I'm planning to go to Germany & Lux by train next year. :)

Lovely part of the world, especially Luxembourg brilliant. id encourage you to get out into the countryside rather than just the capital. Tour of vineyards quite brilliant, views and tasting the crémant

About 1.5 hours from the Luxembourg border, Beilstein and Cochem are really nice.

To update: a friend with local knowledge advised me that Trier itself is a nice place to base myself for 7 days as it's easy to read Luxembourg and also the Eifel area (where the round lakes in ancient volcanoes really appeal to me). So this is now where I'm focusing my search for accommodation.
