I wondered what you thought, what you particularly enjoyed? We're interested in history and church architecture, which would be the main focus of the trip. Also any hotel or restaurant recs would be great- it's for my husband's birthday so we can push the boat out.

I was there for a wedding it’s a beautiful place but apart from drinks before assembling at wedding venue no suggestions of places to eat - wedding was full weekend staying on a vineyard but the centre was very buzzy

We stayed there before a cruise and loved it. It’s small but pretty. We ended up in v touristy restaurants but they were reasonably priced and food was good.

We went a few of years ago to pick up a cruise, 2 adults and 2 children so our day may have had a different landscape to yours but actually we enjoyed Ravenna, the architecture is beautiful and they're famous for mosaics which feature all over the city. We had a look around the Mosaics museum which every enjoyed. As is usual in Italy there are several large squares with plenty of restaurants, we didn't have anything fancy I'm afraid. We stayed in a really nice airbnb just off one of the main squares, was lovely to look out at in the morning as the city started to wake up and get moving.

Second day we got the bus out to the beach, was nice and clean and plenty of bars and restaurants, buses were easy to navigate.

We went there for the day from Bologna. The mosaics are fabulous. We only had a cheese toastie for lunch so I really can’t comment on eateries. I’m sure one of the review sites would help you.

We’re interested in Ravenna as well. The area looked like it might be worth a week because there seems to be a good collection of places nearby – Bologna, Rimini and San Marino, and it’s near the sea so there are probably others.

But I have no real feel for where one would stay, or how long it really demands? Would love to know more.
