Niagra Falls

I am currently planning a road trip around Canada and will fly home from Toronto. We are planning to visit Niagara Falls as our final destination but having just looked at all the things you can do there, I was wondering how long we should leave. Is a day enough? Anyone been there recently?

Many thanks

It was a fair few years ago, but we did 2 days for Niagara Falls.

First day, did the Maid of The Mist, and walked a couple of the trails to see the rapids which are further down from the actual falls.

The second day we had a mooch around the very Blackpool-esque strip up the hill. Very cheesy, novelty stores, arcades etc

One day is enough…..it’s like Blackpool

Stay at Niagra on the lake

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 31/10/2025 17:18

Yes, stay at Niagra on the Lake! I'd say a whole day is enough, you can fit everything in. Or two half days. Book early if you want to go on the zipwire!

We stayed in Niagara on the lake this summer for two nights. Went to Niagara Falls on our one full day there. Plenty of time.

you could spend more time in the area, particularly if you would enjoy vineyards, but for the falls itself a morning/afternoon is enough.

splash out for one night on a falls view room in the Marriott - it was worth every penny. Do the boat ride into the falls - it is exhilarating (it used to be called Maid of the Mist, but I think the name has changed). Then go and stay near Niagara on the Lake - do the vineyards and there is also power boating. Was there this year and loved it

So glad I asked! I did see one hotel advertised and it did look very tacky!! I went when I was 7yo (45 years ago lol) and I can remember parts of it. I think I will only do a day!!

Thanks all

Any hotel recommendations? I'm going with DH and twin daughters who will be 18 next summer

We did a day trip from Toronto- it was a long journey!

changednameagain1234 · 31/10/2025 17:26

Yeah, I remember being so surprised how tacky and cheap it was, just like Blackpool!

And is it just me or were the falls themselves a lot smaller than they look on the telly?..

pasanda · 31/10/2025 17:27

Thanks Marigold - just looked at the Marriot hotel now - those views look amazing! It will be the last night of our trip so I would be very happy to splash out a bit!

Off topic but Niagra Falls made me think of Viagra. Not sure I’d want to go to Viagra Falls!

OhDear111 · 31/10/2025 17:39

Compared to the rest of Canada it’s tacky.

dogsandbunnies · 31/10/2025 18:06

Definitely worth seeing the Falls but agree with everyone else that a day is enough! We did it as day trip from Toronto and it was long but worth it.
