Following on from my earlier post, I’ve decided Lisbon should be a spring trip and now can’t decide between these two! Which would you choose and why?

Have done both.....its cold but Budapest seems to be very windy especially near all those bridges so its bitter....but you have the fab spas to get warm, cheap and very good and lovely buildings.

Budapest, but only because of the hot springs. I went there end of Nov, there had been a light snowfall but it cleared fairly quickly and with the right winter coats, hats etc it was fine. Walked all around the city but the Gellert hot springs were amazing for a relax and spent at least half the day there. Lots to see and do other than the hot springs also.

Years earlier I went to Prague at Easter. Also lots to see and do. I did a day trip, on a local train to Sedlec ossuary which has the most amazing church with decorations made with human bones. I realise this sounds utterly macabre, but I'd seen a travel show years earlier which made me fascinated. It was only on my return to the UK, I was told about another day trip to Cesky Krumlov. The photos look so pretty, but it would be somewhere I'd assume would be nicer in warmer weather and not in the depths of winter.

I've never been to Prague but can imagine Budapest would be gorgeous in winter- lots of hot thermal baths inside and out, ruin bars and glittering art nouveau and Baroque cafés to warm up in over a coffee or hot chocolate or something stronger. Lots of interesting indoor things to visit like the cave hospital, labyrinth, House of Terror, art gallery, opera etc. And the national food is very winter-friendly too - lots of spicy goulash with noodles and rich duck in berry sauce and cakes.

I have done both in January, they will be cold but so lovely . Prague was definitely my favourite. Wrap up warm an enjoy some delicious hot chocolate

good call leaving Lisbon for Spring. Summer here can be quite a scorcher.
