Thailand Christmas

Hi everyone

Wr booked a hotel on Koh Chang 18 months ago for Christmas and the FCDO are advising not to travel due ongoing issues between Cambodia and Thailand. Obviously disappointed but can’t be helped and our safety is more important!
I’ve been looking for alternative hotels/ locations and everything seems super expensive!!! Can anyone recommend somewhere for a 6 people- a family of 3 including a 16 year old, my mum who’s a v fit 78 year old and dsis and her 16 yo son? We have been to Thailand a fair few times and know we don’t want to go to Krabi or Koh Samui. We have a week ( because of non danceable hotel in Bangkok and flights) and have looked at Ko Samet, Koh Lanta, Phuket and Hua Hin. Hua Hin obviously doesn’t have the vibe of the islands and is more high rise but for a week from Bangkok is easy. There aren’t many places left on Koh Samet, has anyone stayed in Rayong? We’re ideally looking for nice beach, hotel with pool, walking distance to restaurants, ability to dive/ snorkel and a few things to do.

Sorry to hear you have to change your plans. I can't help with Thailand but we are going to Langkawi this Christmas.

Have a look at Khao Lak. We have spent a couple of Christmas holidays there.

We've had great holidays on Ko Phi Phi and Phuket (near Karon Beach). Pimalai Resort was also wonderful. Marriott Resort at Nai Yang was also great (but can be expensive for that many people).

FWIW, I'd stick with Koh Chang, it's a large island and the issue is on the mainland border. My DC was there a few weeks ago and no interruption to travels etc.

Thanks all. We’ve looked at Khao Lak but everything is really expensive! We’ve been to Phi Phi and loved it but again can’t find anything!!
I’d love to stick with Koh Chang but given FCDO advice, insurance invalid and we really don’t want to risk it. They don’t advise against any more unless there’s good reason..
