Hi. Just wanted some advice from parents that have been to disney in california with young children. My daughter will be nine, and my son will be five and we are going together with husband. Kids don't particularly like rides. They mainly like river rapids and slower rollercoasters. Just wondering whether to do just disney park or disney adventure land as well?? Also, is universal worth it with 2 young children.

Both Disney parks are worth doing with young children.

Universal studios is located north of Hollywood. From Anaheim where Disneyland is located it can take around 90 minutes to arrive there.

Another theme park which is family friendly and very close to Anaheim is Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park. It also has an adjacent water park.

@AttilaTheMeerkat Thank you. Would you suggest doing all the 3 of them over the period we are there?

What time of year are going travelling there and how long are you in Los Angeles for?. If it is say 7 days in Anaheim then I would stick to both Disney parks along with Knotts Berry Farm and their water park.

I would think they’d like Knotts Berry Farm and if you eat chicken you must try Mrs Knotts world famous chicken dinner!.

If I recall correctly the mall called South Coast Plaza is not all that far from Anaheim either.

(If family are collecting you all from LAX so much the better. It’s not a very taxi or Uber friendly airport because the collection point for those is on the airport boundary).

We did at a similar age. We stayed in Newport/ Huntingdon beach area and went to Knotts Berry farm which was fabulous and then to one of the hotels across the street from Disney and did the main park in one day. Went back to the hotel for a rest and swim mid afternoon. We only did one park as we felt we'd had enough theme parks. CA Disney is nice as its smaller and feels manageable.

Also been to universal on a different trip but dc were a bit older. They loved it but I think it's more about the rides and Harry Potter, Simpson etc. If they've not had much exposure to the Universal brand characters they might not get as much oit of it.

We did this trip when my DC were 10 and 14, we stayed in Anaheim for 9 nights, then went to San Diego for 7 nights. We hired a car and did other things, DS and youngest went to a baseball game, we went to see the Queen Mary ship and submarine. I don’t do big rides, but there was plenty to do, we only did Disney and Universal, we also drove to the beach a couple of days.

Can recommend the Candy Cane Inn as a place to stay at Disney.
