Weekend in Liverpool

Looking for suggestions for 2 days in Liverpool for DH & me. Early December. Accommodation is booked (Hope St Hotel) but open to ideas on activities, restaurants etc.
We choose Liverpool as it's handy to get to and neither of us have visited previously. We like the Beatles but wouldn't be mega fans, not interested in football stadium tours and we don't drink alcohol. Happy to do plenty of walking, and would like to eat good food & hear some live music maybe.
Would love some suggestions, thank you.

The two cathedrals (at either end of the street where you're staying!).
Walker Art Gallery, St George's Hall, World Museum (all close to each other).
Liverpool Museum (at Pier Head), then take the 'ferry cross the Mersey'.

Get on a bus down to Sefton Park, and visit the Palm House..... or Calderstones Park, to include the Mansion House (nice coffee shop and bookshop).

Further out of town, Anthony Gormley's Another Place at Crosby, and/or a Guided Tour of Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot (need to book in advance).

You need a fortnight, really!

For casual food, The Quarter is close to you. Behind the Philharmonic Hall (so also very close to you) is The Art School, if you want fine dining.
In town, Mowgli, Salt House Bacaro or Lunya.

I love Liverpool you won’t be short of places to visit or go out. I love any of the cafes ok bold street and castle street for lovely bars

We had a brilliant funny female guide on the open top bus tour, she had so many anecdotes. Also loved the modern Catholic cathedral. Maybe a walking tour, and of course hopefully the Christmas Lights.
The statues on the beach at Crosby are very spooky if you have a car and it's your type of thing.

ColdHenrietta · 20/10/2025 19:45

They are not spooky! But they are unmissable. (Also you can get there by train or cab if not driving.)

I’m so glad you’ll be staying at Hope St Hotel, @Winterbluuse - it’s one of my favourite places in the world.

PPs have mentioned most places - but do try to find out what will be going on at both

and

As well as

Adding in Panoramic 34 for afternoon tea or mocktails at sunset. Great views of the city, the Mersey and over to Wirral and the height gives you a totally different perspective of Liverpool.
PPs have mentioned everything else I could think of and more.

Thanks everyone for the fantastic suggestions. Am really looking forward to our visit now!
