Panicking - sorrento with teens

We are off to Sorrento for half term with three teenagers. We all want to go to Pompeii and Vesuvius so that’s easy. However the rest of the time my kids just want to swim. The weather forecast is not looking great - rainy and 18-20 degrees. My plan had been to go to the thermal baths on Ischia for the day but that worked out at £350 for us to go and that’s beyond our budget for a day trip. So that’s off the table. What can we do?
We have a hire car, so we can travel about a bit but what are we going to do with them? I’m now thinking I’ve picked the wrong place to go and it’s going to be a miserable holiday with lots of moaning. Help!

@twistyizzy we’re not in Sorrento. This was a public bus. We were the only tourists on it. I mentioned the cost because lots of other posters have suggested going into Naples by train or bus because it’s a cheap thing to do, like a couple of Euros. Just pointing out it’s not that cheap (or quick) so one day trip to Naples was enough for us. Not getting into a big debate about the relative costs of public transport in different parts of the UK. Anyway, I’m off for a dip in the pool.

18 miles is quite a long way, I don't think £6 return is expensive. Didn't you get a car ?

@Timelineuk we have been into Naples, thanks. Just to note that the return bus fare for us was 33 euros, which was a bit of a shocker! Not sure I’ve ever paid that much to catch the bus in the UK

Definitely the train is the cheapest. Some of the slower ones are a couple of euros pp.

@Timeforabitofpeace the train doesn’t go out to Bacoli. The closest it gets is Pozzuli. So it was more straightforward to get the bus and stick with it into Naples.
