Australia + which Pacific Island?

I am going to visit Australia for the first time. We are doing Perth, Ayers Rock, Sydney, and then plan to fly to a small pacific island for some diving time. Which one is good? Tonga?

Agree I'd probably head towards Sulawesi. However I've not been to Tonga, but unless you are planning an around the world route, I assume you'd have to return to Sydney before you can head back to Europe. Indonesia is at least heading in the general direction of Europe.

A friend of mine went to Rarotonga and it was beautiful with great diving.

I was on Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef and the diving there was fantastic too.
