Extra keg room seats

Hi, I've booked an extra leg room seat next to the exit. Someone has just told me I'll be asked to leave as I'm a larger person and asked to sit elsewhere? Is this true

I think you must be able to put the armrests down and not need a seat belt extender so depends how large you are.

16 stone

I think you need to be mobile enough to help in an emergency. If you're not, you'd need to sit elsewhere, but unless you have a disability you should be fine if you don't need the extender. They may check on boarding though.

If it’s by the emergency exit, you also have to put any “under the seat” bags in the overhead lockers and be responsible for opening the emergency exit doors.

The extra leg room seats next to emergency exits do have different rules but surely the airline would not have let you book one as a comfort seat if they didn’t allow it.

So I can put my 21 year old daughter who is slim in that seat and I sit in hers next to her if there's an issue?

If you’re tall (and I assume that’s why you’ve booked extra leg room), then 16 stone isn’t so overweight that you’ll be unable to operate the exit door if required.

If you’re short, why are you booking extra leg room anyway? (But yes, they may ask you to move if they think you’re too obese to operate the door in an emergency).

No. Same rules applies to all the seats on the exit row.

I'm not sure it's an (extra) comfort seat, it"s a seat with extra legroom?

If it's the latter the airline has no way of assessing suitablity until they are on board..

Oh yes! I think I misunderstood! I thought it was an extra…leg room seat. Another leg room seat!

owlexpress · 26/08/2025 16:07

16 stone is not particularly unusual, and whoever said that to you sounds very rude!

@HundredMilesAnHour I'm short and book extra leg room because DH is 6' 4 and we like to sit together. It's nice to have the extra space.

nikamoz · 26/08/2025 16:17

I've changed seats just now ,I'd hate to be asked to move , I'm 16 stone but perfectly capable of opening a door 😆 but she has made me worried.I am short but booked it so I can wiggle my legs and also I really liked the idea of no one reclining their seat in front of me .but hey ho I've altered my seat now.

You would have been ok - I think they don’t allow you ton sit there if you need an seat belt extender but otherwise you’d be ok.

Toomanywaterbottles · 26/08/2025 17:33

I’ve always thought that the door looks quite complicated to me - I wouldn’t want to try opening it in an emergency situation.

Simonjt · 26/08/2025 17:36

Yeah if you can’t get the arm rest down or need a seatbelt extender they move you from the emergency exit row, so it would be annoying to pay more only to be moved to a normal seat.
