Visiting The Hamptons whilst in NY is it possible?

Just wondered if its possible to stay the night in The Hamptons. I'm not sure how to get there or how long it takes. I read it in a 10 best places to go book and I thought I'd try and fit it in my forthcoming trip to NY.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is possible - the Hampton Jitney is the easiest way to get to and from Manhattan. As far as I remember, the journey is approx 3 hours each way (not that long in US terms!) Accommodation may be a little more tricky - as well as being outrageously expensive, it also tends to get booked up months in advance of the summer season.

Thanks for the reply,I think the transport looks a good option although I am beginning to realise the accommodation maybe a bigger hurdle than I had realised.
