Car hire Menorca

Hi, we are going to hire a car from [[https://www.autosmenorca.com/en https://www.autosmenorca.com/en]], however we are finding the terms and conditions unclear. We are aiming for a premium which means that there is no deposit required. Will we need to present a credit card also to block off some money? Anyone with experience of this company also? Many thanks

Not completely sure what you are asking, but I always buy a separate insurance policy from a 3rd party insurer to cover my excess. Last time I hired a car I got own from cover4rentals.com but I have used icarhireinsurance.com in the past too.

Even if you use a 3rd party insurance you will need to a credit card to block off the potential excess and then, if anything were to happen, you'd pay the hire car company and then claim back from the insurance. Is the issue you don't have a credit card?

No idea about this company but usually you need a credit card for a pre authorised amount to be taken and refunded at the end

Also - have you checked holiday autos or rentalcars.com for prices and reviews of hire car companies? We've booked with Hertz at Menorca airport through holiday autos.

You need a credit card. You can filter your search by provider, car type (the usual bits).

I definitely recommend them.

It may or may not mean no deposit, but it can be a really expensive way of hiring a car, adding £100+ to the cost of the rental just to not use a credit card - if you're one of those people who 'don't need a credit card', this is why you do.

We haven't hired a car post covid, partly due to taking different types of holidays or just using public transport, but have previously used Centauro and Hiper Car in Mallorca so they might also operate in Menorca.

We always bought the excess insurance separately and left a deposit on a credit card and never had any issues.

Basically read and follow the Moneysavingexpert guide to overseas car hire. The other way they can sneakily increase the cost is to make you pre-pay for a tank of fuel that you won't use most of, because its a small island so if you're not planning on doing lots of driving, also consider the fuel policy.

I agree. I used Doyouspain.com a lot when I lived there and when they changed from accepting debit cards to preferring credit I switched over because I ended up having to take extra insurance/paying extra just to use the debit card.
