How long is a piece of string ...?

Me and DH run our own business, and it is therefore difficult to take summer holidays - and I am scared to take the DC out of school. As a result we only get away every couple of years for a break.
Is there an average price to expect to pay for a 2 week holiday? We dont like big resorts, and prefer a villa, or shared facilities but not an appartment block or hotel.
Is it really £4-5000 for 2 weeks - family of 4 (and closer to £8K for caribean!)

It might be worth having a look at the European villas on the Hoseasons site....

hoseasons

some of them seemed quite reasonable to me. It would mean booking flights separately, but could be worth the effort.

Thanks, i haven't tried them. I can probably get flights at this late stage to Europe for £700 for the 4 of us in middle of summer

Let us know how you get on, I love hearing about folks' holidays, it really puts me in the mood. DD not in school yet, so we're going in Sept to Dorset for a week, then to Bilboa for 6 days (3 days cruising), then to a canal boat in middle England for a few days. Can't wait.

Good luck

If you rent the villa privately and do your own flights/ferries or whatever it can be much cheaper. www.privatevillas.co.uk has a big selection of villas, apartments all over Europe. We have used them a lot and theyre good.

Try sunhat villas, somewhere to stay.com I do alot of villas as it suits our family life however I am a travel agent and would 100% recommend booking your flights and villa seperate as its much cheaper. You get ripped off in the school hols and it probably would be 4000/5000 for a villa in peek weeks but if you spend the time to book it seperate you will save ££££££. A example for you we go to menorca in a few weeks the package deal was £ 3200 we got the same thing for £ 1500 booking it all seperate. Good luck

Thanks for the new sites to look up. Things have gone a bit belly up at work - so might not be able to afford anything at all this year.
Oh the joys of running your own business.
