Vietnam and Google Pay / Google Wallet

We are off to Vietnam next week and I have had a thought!

Is Google Pay/ Google Pay widely accepted in shops and restaurants in Hanoi, Haylong Bay, Hoi An and An Bang Beach?

And I assume they will need data to complete transaction ... which I am going to arrange with an e-sim.

Have any of you helpful community been to Vietnam recently and can help?

I have tried to Google it...but not convinced with the answer I got.

We went in March and mainly used a credit card. From memory it was chip and pin rather than bopping the card. We didn’t actually try paying by phone. Some places definitely wanted cash only, so be prepared.

Also, my eSIM didn’t work. No idea why.

Hi. We got an e sim in advance - very easy to sort out and we did pay for some things using our phone, but most things using normal credit card. Also download the grab app before you leave. It’s their version of Uber and you can ensure you know how much a taxi is before you set off. We had an amazing time (visited all the places in your OP). I’m sure you will as well.

Mine was Airalo. It worked well in Istanbul, but not Vietnam unfortunately

We got an e-sim on arriving at the airport and they set it up for us, can't remember the provider. Most shops and proper restaurants accepted apple pay so assume google pay will be the same. You need cash for smaller restaurants, markets, street vendors.

We got Airola for us (which worked fine). My DS has a physical SIM so we just bought one from the airport which was even cheaper and worked fine.
