Amsterdam with a toddler

We are two adults and a toddler staying in Amsterdam-Zuid this summer for 5 days and I am wondering how much spending money would you take (mostly for food)?

Also if anyone has ever taken their children to Amsterdam, do you have any tips? We are planning a day at the zoo and also travelling to Tilburg for a day at Efteling

Use a card that doesn’t charge for overseas use and watch out for bikes!!

Take some picnic cutlery/pocket knife and get yourself some food at any of the Albert Hejn supermarkets, they do lots of little take away pots, fruit, rolls etc. We did this for lunch most days and just looked for a nice park.

Dinner is similar to UK prices I found.

The zoo is great, there is a decent restaurant in there but you can also bring food. I would pre-order tickets so you don’t have to queue, it can be busy.

The Vondel park is great with children.

And yes - take care of the bikes, pedestrians are at the bottom of the food chain.

We did the Wondr Experience on our last visit to Amsterdam and loved it. Very suitable for a 2yo.

The pancake boat cruise is very child friendly. The boat we went on even had a ball pit for small children! You get unlimited sweet and savoury pancakes and can add your own toppings. There are also colouring sheets and crayons onboard.

Bablands who is a London with kids blogger had a good guide to The Netherlands, worth a search for it.

Playhood is great for toddlers, its the other side of centraal station. Amsterdamse bos to the south is a big park with a outdoor paddling area and play parks if the weather is nice. Ferries across to Amsterdam Noord are free and kids usually like little boat trips.
