Has anyone ever been to Zanzibar? We're considering it as a destination for our honeymoon so I'd love to know any experiences or recommendations if you've been there before. Other destination suggestions welcome.

I loved Zanzibar we did 3 days after a Kenyan safari, I’m not sure how much longer I would have wanted though.

We were thinking of two weeks beach and relax and nip over to Tanzania for a safari at the end. How did you find the locals and the other tourists?

I spent some time living in Tanzania so I used to visit fairly often, the night food market is fab, lots of lovely street food and Indian restaurants. Turtle island/prison island is worth a visit as is a snorkel trip. I’d recommend going on a spice tour, you see the various spices being grown and have a lovely meal at the end. And there’s a whole other host of tours you can go on. It’s a lovely place

I would caution against thinking you can necessarily 'nip' anywhere. I was surprised at the travel time (both road and plane) that was required when travelling in Kenya. Not Zanibar/ Tanzania I know, but I can't imagine the situation is too different.

There were quite a lot of sellers on the beach, the hotel staff were absolutely incredible, the diving and snorkelling were awesome, a pod of dolphins swam past us. We did more water activities than sightseeing

I stayed overnight in Stone town in a nicd hotel, cant remember its name sadly, the one night and day was enough for me. Then Matemwe for 5 nights, east side so beautiful sunrises. Great for scuba/snorkeling. Incredibly quiet. Amazing food. We had a trip to the mangroves which I loved (apart from stepping on an ant nest - they move very quickly up your trouser leg nipping).

We loved Zanzibar

We stayed here which was quiet and nice: https://www.kisiwahotelszanzibar.com/pages/kisiwa-on-the-beach/

Went to The Rock https://www.therockrestaurantzanzibar.com/image-gallery/

Also a great setting and nice food.

Had a few days in Stone Town which was amazing. Stayed here: https://www.serenahotels.com/zanzibar?srsltid=AfmBOooZ5LtjyR9CXFbSjOUREUCg37C1uNN6oaSRuUN0nFRsNyzWqu1n

We didn't explore much of Zanzibar beyond Stone Town, but the hotel was very well placed.

The safari was also amazing and one of the best trips we have done. I'd much rather do more safari than beach, but i'm not much for the RnR

People are lovely and gentle, even the beach hawkers were quite respectful and nice. Didn't really bump into many other tourists

We adore Zanzibar. Would go back in a heartbeat.

This is my favourite place I’ve ever stayed. It’s very very chill.

Also recommend a few nights in Stonetown which is magical. This hotel is gorgeous. Very romantic.
