Forcing us to buy seats

Family of 5 going abroad (me, DP, Ds7, grandma and grandad), found a deal through on the beach with Ryanair flight to Spain. When progressing it forces me to pay for a seat to ensure my child is with me. Annoying but fine. But then it wants me to select seats for all other adults who are happy to sit separately! I’ve tried to progress with just one adult and child seat selected but it won’t allow me to! The worst of it is that most seats are already reserved so other member would then be forced to pay but not sit together?! This can’t be right? When I try to progress with one adult/ 1 child order it says ‘one of your party is under 12 so must be accompanied. This will add a minimum of £100 extra on to the holiday. No number to call either. We’ll probably book with someone else now just because it’s such a scam!

On The Beach are an authorised reseller of Ryanair (unlike some holiday companies which "scrape" the Ryanair site), so they "ought" to include everything exactly the way that Ryanair does it. But I can imagine that when they were programming their booking process, they didn't include quite as much flexibility as the Ryanair app/site (which is actually pretty good).

But as you say, this is OTB's problem. Maybe they have a support number. However, any mention of Ryanair always brings out the visceral reactions in any social media context (I see we even have a classic "went with them once, never again" on the thread).

Edited

Yep, their site is rubbish. So many jumping on to slag off Ryanair and make false claims but it’s actually OTB that are the problem here

That’s not true. On the app go to manage my booking, add bags, and you can select the preference for each passenger.

Why do people make this shit up?

Well, there's a grain of truth to it. When you book for four people they all have to take the same "fare", which comes with various things bundled in. From memory you can get "Basic", or "With a big cabin bag", or "Refundable all-singing all-dancing", and probably others.

But since those bundles are no cheaper than booking Basic and then adding the extras on, which you can do person-by-person, there's no reason not to do the latter.

I mean, if it’s too tricky to use your brain then yes, maybe. At a push 🤣

I’ve just checked on the app and it let me just seat one adult and child. Maybe book on there if you weren’t already?

Ahhh, will try this!

Look, you know Ryanair coins in so instead of complaint, book with EJ or BA or Jet 2 or anyone really but be prepared to pay more. People who want the cheapest but then complain are ridiculous.

IBEAN · 28/07/2025 17:13

I don't understand these complainers. They want it cheap, learn the ropes and stop moaning. I don't fly with them for many reason so I pay more. That is how it works.

It's the same with luggage. You can't book hold luggage for individuals in your party, only for all of them. They are utter bastards.

Morris that isnt true! Why do people make up this sort of rubbish?? People love to kick RyanAir and turn their noses up. Funny that the flights are almost always full. I have flown with them a few times. Not particularly cheap if you want to have hold luggage and sit in a non middle seat but no one is forcing you to fly with them.

You do need to make time to understand what they are offering and if you dont like it then you are free to book with other airlines. I find their flight times arent great and I would rather pay more to go at a more suitable time.

IBEAN · 28/07/2025 17:19

Asking a very budget airline to give you schedule airline service is howling at the moon. Stop posting this rubbish. If you have a genuine complaint, pursue it bet this is just attention seeking nonsense.

PropertyD · 28/07/2025 17:20

I think the complainers want a flight for £20, free hold luggage, as much hand luggage as you can carry and sit in an extra leg room seat (for free).

Even better would be for food to be included.

IBEAN · 28/07/2025 17:22

Why are they bastards? Again and again, don't book with them if you don't like the terms. Pay more and quite moaning. It just sounds so greedy and entitled. Grow up.

That’s not true. It sort of looks like that but if you go thru basic without cases there is the option to add just one priority or just one checked bag between two. Or one big case between 4.

I book like this every time
