Ideas for uk holiday with teens

I’m hoping the mumsnet hive mind might help!

I’m looking for ideas for. Summer holiday with me (single parent) my 2 boys (17 & 13) + probably the eldest GF that doesn’t break the bank, but is fun and has stuff to entertain all of us. Last few years we’ve done holiday parks, with lodges & activities etc. but last year it cost over £2k all in, so I was hoping for more affordable suggestions. Dog friendly a bonus!

Know it shouldn’t be a competition, but something that competes with the 5* hotel in Majorca their dad takes them to 🙄😱😂

A city break in Edinburgh? Or half a week in Edinburgh and a couple of days in Loch Lomond (watersports etc). Cut costs by staying outside the city centre and avoiding August (last week of July should be fine), unless you want to experience Edinburgh festival (which is good fun for teens but pushes accommodation prices up).

I was going to say narrowboat, the boys can drive. Not necessarily cheap though
