Hi hivemind. Planning a road trip to Lake Garda beginning September - husband and me. We’re not young(!!) but like lively resorts - think Ayia Napa/Ibiza. Not into clubbing now but still like a bit of nightlife. Which area would you suggest? TiA

They are very different places but Bardolino and Desenzano are the ones with the most nightlife

Bardolino I think is better located and a more English tourist spot

I have stayed in Garda town and Sirmione and liked both.

Garda has loads of lakeside cafes.

I personally love Salo. There's a lively square with bars and restaurants and in the evenings it's great to walk up and down the waterfront, stop for drinks and dinner and people watch. Then head for a late night gelato at the tiny store behind the Duomo. You can drive there for an evening (multi storey car park about 5 mins walk from the waterfront) , or land there by foot ferry to explore.

My favourite place to stay at Lake Garda, which is somewhere I absolutely love, is the Grand Hotel Gardone, in Gardone Riviera. It’s a lovely hotel, and has recently been refurbished I believe, and is in such a lovely a convenient situation. Everyone I know who has stayed there has loved it too!

Loved Gardone. The garden with the battleship is worth exploring.

Malcesine.

It's worth bearing in mind that the further north on Lake Garda you are, the earlier you lose the sun. If you are on the east side, you get the evening sun and beautiful sunsets.
