Gran Canaria at Xmas - any recommendations

Thinking of taking our 2 girls 1.5 and 3.5 to Gran Canaria at Xmas - can anyone recommend a good place to stay - or have an apartment/villa for rent? Would prefer to self-cater, in a quiet (ish!) place - we're not lively nightlife people!! Also what's the lowdown on car rental when we need car seats for the kids?
All ideas gratefully received......

Jandia in Fuerteventura is gorgeous, very long stretches of beach. We hired a Jeep and drove into the mountains for a change of scenery. Twas great and the DC's loved it. I'd love to go back.

Puerto mogan is very nice pretty harbour ect. Maspalomas is also very nice that is where the big sand dunes are. Playa del ingles is a busy resort as is puerto rico in high season. There is a new bit been built onto puerto rico called amadores that is very nice you dont want a really quiet quiet resort in december as it is quiter anyway. Been to gran canaria loads and im also a travel agent so just shout if you want more info

I preferred the Meleronas side to maspalomas . Easier access to the beach , quieter resort. We were in Maspalomas ( the playa side) in January. It was mainly mid - older couples and the gay community . So when it was a bit windy we went to some of the shopping areas or walked inland. The walk to the beach was a bit steep hence we prefered the beach the other side. Our dd was 23m and we were in a hotel but there were some nice apartments ( small complex) I googled Gran Canaria apartments / villas and came up with some nice ones that we were looking at maybe for the future. Car seats were not obligatory but we found a taxi company that provided one ( for transfers). All the larger car hire comps offered seats and a few of teh local ones did as well .

I agree with Jandia in Fuertenentura! - lovely place and great weather at that time of year.

The Jandia Princess is a beautiful hotel to stay in too
