Any Miami locals on line please?

We’ll be in Miami for two days next week, staying at The Tony hotel.

We’ve ordered a car as we have a late flight booked on the second day and figure it means we’ve got somewhere to keep our luggage while we do tourist stuff.

But, we arrived in Miami yesterday to get a cruise and the traffic was awful! We are now wondering if a car is a good idea.

Any thoughts please?

Thanks in advance

spring break worst time and the second is hurricane season

Spring Break is definitely on right now in Miami. Atlantic Hurricane Season starts on June 1st so you’ll be okay for a while.

Oir time here was governed by something else so sadly, we couldn’t avoid the spring break clash. But that explains the very heavy traffic yes?

You don’t need a car in Miami. We were there last October and dumped the rental as soon as we got there. Parking is also expensive. The day you leave, you just leave the suitcases with the hotel. We had a late flight; we took a small backpack each for the day (we had lunch at the Versace mansion; recommend) and then changed into flight clothes and sat in hotel lobby with our cases until it was time to get an Uber to the airport.

Thank you. What about getting to the Everglades though?

Well, yes, of course you need a car for that. We ended our road trip in Miami, so we’d already visited Everglades etc. On another visit, we started our trip in Miami. We just picked up the rental the day we left Miami for the Everglades.

There are tour companies that run day excursions into the Everglades.

10,000 islands, everglades, keys, none of which are miami. Have a look at Virbo for trips that might be easier. Not sure if the tennis is still on (my FIL is there now), but we always drive in miami as it's so big.

Thank you for the suggestions. We’ve decided to head straight out today (Everglades, Shark Valley). I’ll check out you suggestions for tomorrow 🙏

If you fancy a lazy day on your last day & have done everything you need a car for check out day rooms. You can spend the day at a really fancy hotel for not too many $$. We do this using Ubers when getting off a cruise first thing and flying back to London early evening.
