Any advice which is better for a family of four with two older teenagers.
I know plenty to see and do at both .
Has any been and know which would be better for 2/3 nights

With older teens I think I'd choose Berlin. Lots of cool/quirky stuff to do as well as the big hitters.

Orangebadger · 13/02/2025 19:16

Berlin would be fab with teens I imagine. I went pre kids, it's very cool.

Kraków is AMAZING for teens.

Salt Mines
Lost Souls Alley
Wolf Pit Tavern
Be Happy museum
Pinball museum

And of course Auschwitz

It's relatively cheap which is great when travelling with hungry teens. Pierogi!

Berlin if they study history. It’s not entirely full of child centred fun but it’s a great capital city with museums, galleries and iconic buildings and boulevards. In many ways more important.

I took my DD to Berlin in the summer hols after her A level results .
we both loved it. Stayed really near Checkpoint Charlie, used public transport to get around. Berlin Sunday market was fabulous, we did a tour of the underground tunnels, and the Reichstag. Loads of walking too. And the TV tower.
Krakow is on my list to do next.

So - I don’t think you can go wrong.

Went Interrailing with the DC this summer and Berlin was everyone's favourite destination. What I notice from the Facebook posts of friends or other Interrailers is that nobody does the same stuff there (apart from East Side Gallery and the Brandenburg Gate) because there is so much to do.

@crackofdoomInterailing just samples cities. Stay for 4-5 days and you will see so much more and can really get a feel for the city.

I loved Krakow.
Berlin I'd say was interesting.

But I'd want more than 2-3 nights in either.
I would 100% recommend you go to both Auschwitz and the Salt Mines, and then there is just so much to see in Krakow. That said, it depends on your teens (including how old 'older teens' are). My dc went in 6th form when studying history and was profoundly moved. I went with another of my dc as adults, and it was incredibly sobering and moving and difficult to see, but incredibly important that people do. However, teens mature at different ages and respond to things differently. It isn't an easy place to visit.

Berlin is much bigger. Huge amount of history there and (I thought) interesting architecture. If there's the possibility of doing both over the next 3 or 4 years, I'd go to Berlin first and Krakow when they are young adults.

Krakow is absolutely amazing! Out of all the places, countries, holidays I’ve been on, the 4 days I had in krakow were by far my most favourite!

TheCurious0range · 31/10/2025 23:05

I enjoyed both but 2-3 nights i'd choose Krakow, i'd want more time in Berlin

Not been to Berlin, but we did Krakow and it was my fave city break, by far. So much to do : Auschwitz, The Eagle pharmacy, Shindlers factory. Eating out is SO cheap. Also, in Poland they keep their Christmas trees and lights up until February! We went in January and this was a pleasant surprise. The main square is lined with restaurants and they all have heated outdoor seating in winter. 2 nights would not be enough though. I'd say 4/5 would be optimum.

Krakow. I took teen ds to both and he preferred Krakow.
Lost Souls Alley!
