Winter sun in under 10 hrs.

Where would you go in February for some winter sun that takes less than 10 hours to get to?

I did the Canary Islands to death in my childhood, so would rather go somewhere else. Preferably not as far as SE Asia.

Would like temps of high twenties/low thirties, dry and would ideally have a mix of beach and culture.

Should have added, older primary school aged kids in tow.

Caribbean? Miami?

helpfulperson · 05/02/2025 11:32

Madeira.

Egypt but its a marmite destination

BlueBeam · 05/02/2025 11:32

Cape Verde?

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 05/02/2025 11:33

We've just come back from St Lucia. Temperature around 28C most days. Gorgeous beaches. Less than 9 hours from Gatwick

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 05/02/2025 11:34

Egypt, Oman. Both stunning. You might feel safer in Oman.

Barbados

MissFritton65 · 05/02/2025 11:51

We've just got back from Cape Town - absolutely stunning! Probably pushing your flight time unless going from London but well worth a look. The temperature as between 27° and 35° every day.

MiddleAgedDread · 05/02/2025 11:52

North Africa or the Middle East

Chewbecca · 05/02/2025 11:54

Has to be Caribbean with that criteria. I mean, it is a bit lacking in culture but temps pretty much guaranteed. If you chose Mexico, you could go to the thingymijigs there but I do prefer the Caribbean islands myself.

Miami is horrible. The people are awful.

Musicaltheatremum · 05/02/2025 12:30

I'm in Qatar just now 24 degrees. Cooler in evenings. Very comfortable. Fabulous place. Off to Oman in a couple of days where it will be hotter.

We flew Turkish airlines to Istanbul then on to Doha...they were very good and a lot cheaper than Qatar airlines.

JudgeBread · 05/02/2025 12:36

We just got back from Hurghada, Egypt, temps around 23-28 and breezy, would be about the same in Feb maybe a tad hotter. It was entirely lounging on the beach drinking cocktails though, the extent of the culture I experienced was learning how to swear in Arabic from the bartender. I'm sure you could find some if you wanted to though!

Wow. You know nearly half a million people live in Miami?

Mingenious · 05/02/2025 14:33

Got to be the Caribbean hasn’t it? We did Barbados last year and enjoyed it but probably wouldn’t go back.

We did Caribbean a few years ago, and although we really enjoyed it, I kind of feel like we've "done" it.

St Lucia. 😊

Florida. You don’t have to go to any theme parks (or Miami!). You can visit beaches and nature reserves to see dolphins, manatees, alligators and so many birds.

We’ve recently been and the outbound flight to Orlando was about 9.5 hours, with the return about 7.5.

St Lucia. 😊

The various island do have a different feel.

We have been to Florida in Feb but to the keys.

Oman is also a good call, but pricey.
