Ischia with kids

Hi,

We are planning on staying in Ischia with our 10 and 8 year old children. Does anyone have any recommendations of areas to stay?

Staying for a week in May. Looking for somewhere we can walk to a beautiful beach and walk to restaurants. We don’t want to hire a car.

Thanks!

I would at least hire a car for a day or two. The island is so beautiful and you can explore the whole thing in a couple of days. The botanic gardens are amazing. Car hire is so cheap, we did it through the hotel and it was about £20 for the day!

Oh yes, we would do that, good idea! We just don’t want to be tied to driving to the beach and would like to be walking distance.

Do you have any recommendations of where to stay? Or nice beaches for children.

I would try and stay somewhere near the Harbour as that is where most of the shops and restaurants are.

It's very easy to get around by bus. There are also 2 routes that do a complete circuit of the island... one clockwise and one anti clockwise. Just remember to validate your ticket as you board the bus as they are very hot on that and being a tourist is not an acceptable excuse!

We didn't visit any beaches so can't comment on that aspect, I'm afraid.

Have a great holiday.. we went 3 years ago and loved it there!

Hire a boat and spend a day going round the island. DP and I did that a few years ago- mooring up for pizza and beers in the sunshine, swimming in the sea. Was one of my favourite days ever

Many of the hotels will run shuttles to the beaches OP. The beach underneath Negombo is lovely. We got around mainly by taxi and by hotel shuttle when we went as there were no hire cars available. If I recall correctly ischia limits the number of cars on the island.

You can get round the island easily by bus - at least to the main towns, the Castello Aragonese, the Botanical gardens and some of the thermal parks. I can really recommend Ischia Blu resort in Ischia Porto www.ischiabluresort.com/en/ Everything within walking distance - self -catering apartments on a small beach, but with hotel service and breakfast available. It's one of the nicest places we ever stayed - mind you I think the cost jumped up a bit this year. It's about a 10 - 15 minute walk to a bigger sandy beach.

Not sure any of the beaches are "all that" not if you compare to Puglia or Sardinia, maybe a bit gritty. But it is a volcanic island. Poseidon Terme is nice for a day out for the big pool and all the thermal baths. Can also definitely recommend a visit to the Castello Aragonese for the views and the "nun's graveyard" From Sant'Angelo you can take a little boat to Maronti beach where they have the fumaroles in the sea - like jets of hot water. Last time we also did a boat trip to Procida. We didn't like Forio very much.
