Thomas cook flights to Crete... any recent experiences?

We are going on an Ocean Village cruise in the summer and have heard some horror stories the flights. Just wondering if anyone has flown with children there recently? DD is under 2 so not allocated her own seat and both DH and I are tall so am considering paying for an extra seat on the plane. Am I wasting my money?

We went to Crete summer 2006, the airport was one of the most disorganised and unpleasant airports I have been in.

We queued for an hour, when we got to the front of the q were told we had been queueing in the wrong place - despite being within erected barriers and would have to join the back of a q equally as long as the one we had been standing in.

You go through xray before check in and there was only 1 xray machine for every 6 (?) check in desks.

We flew BA, DH is reg flyer and has gold membership and First Class/express check in - there was no such service available. The 'first class' lounge was hot and packed, was cooler to be in the airport.

There were irate passengers everywhere.

I spoke to a woman member of staff in the loo 'poor you, stressful day type comment' by me and she said 'it is always like this, worse on Fridays' (I'm sure she said Friday, but not 100%)

MegGriffin - I have spoken to Thomas Cook today and they automatically allocate seats to all passengers including infants apparently?! They have asked that we bring a car seat no more than 16inches wide though so sounds like the seats are pretty cramped.

LennieEd, good news about the seat. I'm surprised they give you one for free. I am actually travelling with dds 5 & 8 so have seats already. Hope there is a tv on board!
