What car do we need for 4 adults and one 18 month old

We are going on our first family holiday this summer with 4 adults and our little boy. I can't work out whether we will need a 5 seater or a 7 seater. It's tempting to go for the smaller one as the price difference between the two is so huge, but am concerned it won't be big enough. Can anyone help/ recommend car types?

small mpv should be ok such as Picasso or Scenic. Put toddler in middle of back if you can. Be careful about limiting luggage though. How far are you travelling ?

I would go for the bigger car - car seats for 18 mth olds take up a lot of room. Also, will you need space for luggage in the car?

we just got a scenic and i think its fab.big enough seats-child could go in middle as slightly narrower.and big enough boot.

Careful if specific types are mentioned in the hire car groups as they will not guarantee a certain model for you so make sure you fit into all of them !!!

We went to spain in our Zafira, me, DH, dd1 and DGP's. We did need a roof box and the car boot was packed to the hilt. Mind you we did pack enough for 4 mths because I can't travel light!!
