Menorca - worth hiring a car?

We have booked a fortnight in Menorca at the Hotel Victoria Playa in San Tomas (all comments/tips about the hotel or the resort very welcome!).

Would anyone be able to let me know if San Tomas is very out of the way, and if it's worth hiring a car to see the rest of the island, or if we can rely on public transport to get around?

We came back from Menorca on Friday - as we had more rainy/overcast days than sun I would definitely advise booking the car . Would have been going batty if we hadn't had the car to travel about and been stuck in the resort in that weather. We did get some sun (mainly on the day we were coming home though . DD2 almost got hypothermia in the pool - bless she just had been looking forward to it for so long. And it was very cool at night.
Having said that we still had a fab time - Menorca is very beautiful but you definitely need a car. We also got a free car upgrade when we booked the car (avis) which meant we got a scenic which was very comfy. You will have a fab time and we are planning to go back next year (but not in May!)

Well, we´re here! (and the hotel has internet access !)

Weather is fab, reps around the pool driving us insane so we are hiring the car tomorrow...
