Hi - am considering a two week holiday in August, driving from London to either Norway or Sweden with our 2 kids (4 and 9).

Would love to hear any experiences of similar trips. Any tips on itinerary or specific hotels/ kid friendly activities?

Still trying to make peace with the fact the weather will not be super warm but I love the landscapes and think it will be a fun adventure.

Thanks!

Tight speed limits up there rigorously enforced, so only fun if you like driving really slowly.

Driving to either Sweden or Norway is going to involve crossing through Denmark, so why not add some places there to your itinerary.

For example, take the night ferry to Hook of Holland, arriving early next morning. Then take the autobahn through Germany (via Bremen and Hamburg) to Vejle in Denmark, then on to Billund for Legoland, Lego House, WOW Park and Lalandia. The 500km should take about 8-9 hours, so the next 2 days can be used to see the attractions in Billund.

Then you can drive across Denmark to Copenhagen and Malmo. From there you can go east and north east to other parts of Sweden, or due north to Gothenburg and Oslo. Unless you want to spend all your time driving, you're not going to get to too many places in just 2 weeks, as travel between London and DK/SWE is in itself going to take 2 days in each direction (and as noted above, speed limits are low in Scandinavia). If you get to Oslo or Gothenburg you can save some driving time by taking overnight ferries back to Denmark.

Oh for the days when you could sail overnight from Harwich or Newcastle to Esbjerg or Gothenburg ... 🙁
