Cork on my own

I've never been to Ireland and really want to go. I'll be travelling on my own and although that doesn't bother me I would like to do things with other people. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of Cork. But open to ideas. Probably just for a weekend.

Stay in Cork city centre. The Imperial hotel is right in the city and is beautiful and historical. From there you have the whole city and the English Market (food market ) on your doorstep. There is also some gorgeous restaurants in the area and also on McCurtain St (5 minutes walk). There are lots of walking tours around the city if you want to meet up with people.

The bus station is a couple of minutes walk if you wanted to go to Kinsale etc. The airport is only a few minutes from the city a taxi would be around 20 euro I think but there are buses as well.

There's plenty in Cork to keep you busy for a weekend. However, you could also visit Cobh which has historical attractions relating to the Titanic and Irish emigration. It is an easy trip by public transport.
