One person loved the place, another person hated it, another person goes there every year, another person would rather french kiss a skunk than stay another day.... and so on....and so on....are there any good holiday review websites out there?????

I always use tripadvisor. I like to look at the photos taken by people that have been there rather than just rely on the hotel photos.

Some people are just more fussy than others. See what the complained about and decide how that would effect you.
Where do you have in mind, or have you already booked it?

I've booked for this year, but I was getting really confused checking out the reviews before I eventually made my choice. I did look at trip advisor, and even reviewed my own holiday on there. I think this has compounded my confusion as I didn't enjoy this holiday at all and IMO tried to write a constructive, honest review. However, only 4/6 people have found my review useful. I think I will take more heed of negative reviews now, than positive reviews.

Always read T.A and Holiday Truths

Remember that opinions differ.

I booked a hotel in Amsterdam then days before the trip read a review saying it was horrible and the rooms were really pokey and small.

Yes - the rooms were small but it didn't bother me and I really liked the hotel.

So one person's "pokey" is another's "bijou"

Remember that while the vast majority are good experiences, it only takes one or two to make it sound terrible. Consider that the guests would have been 1 of 100 or so that might have stayed over the same holiday period in the same hotel.

These websites are also open to anyone and hotel employees who may hold a grudge or competitive hotels writing reviews join in.

People like to write a review when things have gone wrong, rather when thing go well. It makes for an interesting read if nothing else.

People love that kind of stuff, for instance AYBU thread for moaning MNers on MN too is very popular!

Take it with a pinch of salt. If you pay 5 star prices for a 3 star hotel then you'd be miffed.
