and I am really struggling. Anywhere in France would be fine (as long as it's not right up North) and since we have two dc's under three it needs to be child-friendly. My attempts to google are yielding nothing. Can anyone recommend anything?

TIA

What about a mobile home (Eurocamp/Keycamp etc)? They're not cheap but some sites have lots of facilities so you end up spending less when you're there

littlerach · 28/04/2008 12:38

owners direct
gite de france

wohmum · 28/04/2008 12:41

Canvas/eurocamp mobile home are great and if you aren't going in school hols you;ll get some good prices. we'd always used canvas up until couple of years ago and they were spotless and generally have great facilities. some sites are especially 'toddler friendly'

MamaG · 28/04/2008 12:42

The villa I linked to has 1 bedroom with a double bed and bunk beds, but 2 sofa beds in the living room too. Nice big back garden with shady gazebo

ggglimpopo · 28/04/2008 13:17

there is someone on mumsnet with a child friendly villa in south of france - asernak? azernak?

aznerak · 28/04/2008 14:56

Hi ggg

That is me! Unfortunately, we are fully booked for August and have been since last year.

However, our neighbour in France is also looking to rent their villa out in July and August - she is a child minder so her villa is very child friendly.

So Docket, if you would like to know more about the location, then please have a look at our website www.villakarli.co.uk as our neighbour's house is obviouosly just next door!

Like our property, it is a detached villa and fully enclosed with lockable gates. They also have a private pool which is fully fenced and secured to stop little ones gaining access. It has 3 large bedrooms and a large terrace with barbecue and a garden with play equipment etc.

If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me via [email protected] and I will give you lots more information

Hope this helps!

I would try

Pierre et vacances

needahand · 28/04/2008 15:13

www.pierreetvacances.com/

don't know how to link. They have "residences" everywhere in France and I have used them in the past without problem. I am going on holidays with them this Friday (and I am going to north of France, by the seaside, there is nothing wrong with north of France)

CaptainUnderpants · 28/04/2008 15:19

Another one here for Pierre & Vacances. First went with them when Dss were 3yrs & 1yrs , went with them three yrs in a row.

Very good , clean apartments and South of France resorts are wonderful !

Book tpowrds the end of August and it will be sloightly ceaper as the Frenchh kids go back to school right at the end.

the British booking agent for them was called Perfect Places but they are now owned by KeyCamp - here

Quite possibly aznerak, I need to speak to dh and try and get a better idea of where we should be going... Will be in touch

No probs Docket.

Not sure how well you know France so apologies if you know already but our villa (and obviously our neighbour's) is in the Languedoc, in the south. The village is roughly equi-distant between Montpellier and Perpignan.

There are 5 airports within roughly an hour of the villas - Beziers, Montpellier, Perpignan, Carcassonne and Nimes. Alternatively, the TGV goes direct from Paris to Beziers in just over 4 hours, so you can also train it from the UK with eurostar and then on the TGV. The other option is to drive all the way, which is what we always do, as we rather like to indulge in the local wines, and tend to stock the car right up for us to enjoy for the rest of the year!

There is tons to see and do in the area - people often assume the south of France will inevitably mean a beach holiday but in fact, it is very easy to spend a couple of weeks there and never even bother going to the coast, there is so much else to keep you busy! However, the local beaches are gorgeous, with golden white sand, no stones or seaweed and lots of shells to gather and they are scrupulously clean with free parking everywhere - even in August!

We send out a very comprehensive information pack to our guests shortly before departure with all the info they could ever need, plus a big section for people holidaying with young children that give lots of suggestions of places to go that would be perfect (for little boys - the dinosaur park is always popular as the area is very important in paleontology!)

Anyway, have a chat with your other half and so let me know if the villa is of interest to you.

Kind regards

A xxx

Second recommendation for the ownersdirect website (co.uk)- very easy to use and you can just type in dates and/or regions etc and it lists properties with availability. I've used it several times and always found it very up to date in terms of availabilty - there is nothing worse them finding the perfect property after hours of searching only to find out its booked after typing in endless details!!! Grrrr!

aznerak · 28/04/2008 16:53

I can vouch for Owners Direct too - we have our villa advertised on there too and find them to be a professional and efficient website

needahand · 28/04/2008 17:09

Languedoc is lovely. We went last year for a holiday and I didn't ever want to come back to the UK. We rented a villa in Marseillan. It was lovely.

Will do aznerak. Perhaps next year.Your villa is lovely

NoNickname · 28/04/2008 17:17

Try www.holiday-rentals.co.uk. You can ssearch by the whole of France, or narrow it by region. You can put in the dates you want, and also search for other things that are important to you.

NoNickname · 28/04/2008 17:23

Or try www.frenchconnections.co.uk/holidays-in-france.cfm

aznerak · 28/04/2008 17:28

Thank you needahand

we love it down there and have tried our best to set up the villa as a real home, not just a holiday let.

we do offer some special offers to people on our small mailing list, so if you want to email me so I can pop you on my list, as soon as we release some special offers for next year, I can let you know and then if you fancy taking advantage of any of them, then you can! If not, you can just delete my email.

Remember to include your mumsnet name if you do email me! Also always good to know if you are tied to school holidays or not?!

All the best
