Mauritus Hotel Recommendations

Hi all,

We're planning our Honeymoon for late March/early April next year and have settled on Mauritus. We're looking for somewhere relaxing with a great beach and nice food. We don't want somewhere too big, and we're looking for somewhere quiet rather than a party. It doesn't need to be adults only.

If youve stayed in any lovely hotels in Mauritius that could fit the bill then ease share them!

We stayed at Sugar Beach in 2019 for our honeymoon and it was lovely. It had just been newly renovated back then. We did a honeymoon package through Kuoni. I'm not sure if it would fail your criteria of being too big? But it didn't feel big to us and we didn't have any issues at mealtimes or finding a sunlounger etc. We went in November.

We flew Emirates via Dubai and the Dubai-Mauritius leg was a code share with Air Mauritius, which was not good. We both said that if we went again, we'd try and fly direct or another airline.

Le Morne in the South West is the best beach for relaxing or snorkeling. Trou Aux Biches had murky water. Last time at Sugar Beach (Flic en Flac) there was far less fish and sea cucumbers several metres long that freaked me out. Bel Ombre on the South coast had a wicked current and we never felt safe in the sea. Never been to the east side but have heard that the sea is shallow.

We have stayed at Sugar Beach and also at Long Beach on east coast, both were lovely and both had excellent food and cocktails etc, beach, watersports, swimming excellent and very safe at both. Both were quiet when we were there but not small. No sea cucumbers when we went in 2023. The fish were pretty at both but nowhere near the Maldives fish but overall preferred Mauritius which was also better value. Both do take children now but not masses of children.

@roamingcat We stayed at The Maritim many years ago and that was lovely. 2 years ago we stayed at Trou Aux Biches Resort which was lovely- didn't find the water murky at all. The food in the Al a carte restaurants was particularly good.

DH is from there and visited all locations the BEST beach by far was the Eastern side. Very very quiet. We visit on May-June and the weather is perfect 20s with a nice breeze. My favourite Eastern beach was a little cove about 1 mile North of Belle Mare. It was quiet nit a person for miles and the sand is ground seashells. It was so chill and calm and beautiful. I can't wait to go back

No hotel suggestions as we stayed with family.

Here are some photos of the location
