Anyone been?

we try and get away December for a Christmas market trip but are really limited to dates this year so the only feasible flight options are Barcelona. I’ve been before but not in de ember - would love feedback from anyone who has been.

I went the week before Christmas one year and loved it (had been several times before in Spring and Summer). It was a really good time to go to escape Christmas madness in the UK. There were lots of street decorations but no one was doing the mad panic present buying.
Weather wise it was cold in the mornings but bright most days and when the sun was out during the day you really only needed a light jacket rather than a heavy coat. Barcelona is always busy but that time of year without the usual heaving crowds everywhere. The Christmas lights were nice to see plus the Christmas markets were open but they sold mainly Christmas decs and trees.

Thanks that sounds ideal - I’m going to book it! Much appreciated.

We were there last December and had a great time. The weather was still sunny enough some days to eat outside

There are numerous smaller Christmas markets too, not one big one:

In front of main Cathedral
In front of Sagrada Familia
By the sea
Off Las Ramblas

Have fun! ☺️

This is super helpful too, thank you!

Horses for courses I guess, but hate Barcelona.
It's just too hustle and bustle for me.
Madrid on the other hand a different story, very mellow and relaxed.

Barcelona is a very busy city with such a buzz. My DDs love it.
DH and I not so much.

But I know I'm in the minority 😂

I've even for new year before and loved being in the sunshine!

Palma also has a nice vibe at Christmas.

I've spent festive period in Barcelona with Christmas itself in a small town nearby with an ex-boyfriend's family. Be aware that much will be properly shut down from 23-26 December - shops, restaurants, public transport, etc.... It was the worst Christmas I've ever had, mainly ex and his family (who lived there)'s complete lack of common sense and planning for this situation, meaning we were stranded in the middle of nowhere with barely any food, and I had to fund another night in hotel for the four of us despite very low salary at time, despite me raising these issues with him in advance... query if he translated them to his family....

Oh dear, that sounds awful!

We’d be going start of December but good to know for future reference. Thank you.
