October half term near Malaga?

Hi guys,

We've had a stressful time of it lately with moving house and school for DS and want to book a last minute trip for half term.

I've looked at the Costa del Sol, thinking the weather might still be pleasant, but I'm not too keen on the major tourist hotspots.

There'll be me, DH and DS (6). I'd like to be near to some attractions (water park, for example), but not right in the middle of the excitement.

Has anyone been to/could recommend any of the smaller areas near Malaga? Ideally a short taxi ride from the airport and with a more Spanish/European feel?

You can get a train directly from the airport to Fuengirola. That’s considered a more Spanish resort.
You can get a bus to Marbella ( an hour ) from Fuengirola.

Is a water park the most important attraction?

Have you looked at Nerja? It’s about 40 minutes from Malaga.

DFIL had a house east of Malaga and we went many times. October was always nice weather wise - still sunny enough for t shirt and shorts but not too roasting for little ones. He was up in the mountains but nearest coastal towns were Torre del mar or torrox costa. Both lovely small towns - very much Spanish family resorts. Fairly quiet but has a sandy/shingley beach with playgrounds etc, a nice promenade where you can hire pedal things (those like bikes but for 4 people) restaurants, shops. There's a water park at Torre but I've never been so can't recommend. Lots of nice walks, mountains and white villages (Frigliana is quaint) if you're into any of that. Nerja is a little further along the coast and is nice but a bit more touristy than Torre or Torrox.

@AllesAusLiebe
Trying to get a picture of what you are looking for - which are the resorts that you don't like ?

I agree with @DrinkFlirtShag that the resorts to the East of Malaga are less likely to have a lot of British tourists, if that's what you are trying to avoid, and going inland is a good idea. Nerja definitely will have - but it's a very pretty place.

I don't think there anywhere is likely to be majorly over busy and crowded in October anyway. Probably Malaga itself would be busiest with a lot of people going on city breaks, or Marbella maybe.

Heading right to the West, Estepona is also more of a Spanish resort and town - but it's about an hour from the airport so not a short taxi ride.

I think Fuengirola is quite ugly, but I do like parts of Torremolinos and Benalmadena Pueblo and Mijas are pretty but away from the coast.

I sent you a PM. 😁

We've had great October holidays in Nerja in previous years.

But check waterpark opening times, I'm pretty sure they are closed in October.
