4-5 Days In Dolomites

After visiting Switzerland earlier this year, I’m keen to do more (easy) mountain hikes and wonder if the Dolomites may be good to visit?

Has anyone been and can recommend areas to stay? Is it best to just stay in one location and use public transport to get around? I would likely fly in/out of Venice, so can pick up a hire car if it makes more sense.

All recommendations for areas to stay and things to do welcome!

Val Gardena is a good area and definitely doable without a car. Lots of interesting hikes: Seceda, Alpe di Siusi, the Sassolungo Group, the Resciesa plateau, Vallunga and Val de Chedul valleys, and the Sella Group.
Hotel Grones in Ortisei was fantastic for us. Had a car but didn’t need while there - can walk to lifts for many hikes (alpe di suisi, seceda). Get the half board- Dinner is locally-inspired and delicious. Family run.
Beautiful church in town and a perimeter walk around the town is nice at sunset. Wish we stayed longer - next time!

We also stayed in hotel grones and it was fabulous. The food is amazing. The photos don’t show how lovely the pool and spa area is. Great value. Ortisei is a great base too.
