Hi I’ve just booked 3 days in Vienna at the beginning of December with my husband . I’ve never been before so am looking forward to it. We can’t get tickets for the Spanish riding school performance but is it worth going to see the exercises ? I don’t know anything about horses !
what else should we make sure we see?
I know it’s cold but are people quite dressed up ? I’ve read it’s quite dressy ? TIA

It's a European capital city so you can definitely wear what you want.

It's absolutely freezing in December though.

Make sure you check out the cafes and eat lots of cake and pastries. Sachertorte is popular, but I'm not a fan of the taste.

Not particularly dressy unless you are attending opera or similar, more smart casual. The rehearsal at Spanish Riding School is still worth it but wrap up warm. There are palaces and galleries, ride the Ring tram, cathedral, Christmas markets, eat sachertorte and schnitzel etc but watch out for pickpockets.

Vienna in December is fabulous. Don't bother with the Spanish riding school because you'll have all of the Christmas markets to browse around. Don't miss the Schönbrunn Palace.
Dress up warm because it will be cold and probably snowing there. Don't worry about looking stylish.
I'm jealous.

I went to Mozart House and drank a lot of gluhwein. Schonbrun Palace definitely. There’s all sorts of concerts around town firmly aimed at tourists, a nice thing to do in an evening.
