Malaga area at Xmas

Hi, our family are hoping to go over to the Malaga area for Xmas and new year. We have 3 adult children and various partners wanting to come so I'm looking for somewhere that has bars and restaurants still open and isn't closed down for winter. We had thought of Malaga city itself but then realised that the whole coastline is lovely so thought it might be easier to find a nice villa to rent out if the city centre but I'm unsure which area. Has anyone any insight on this? Any experience of winter down there? Thank you

I haven't been actually over Christmas but we've had a few holidays in Nerja 27 Dec - 4 Jan. Re bars and restaurants - many are open but a few are closed,
I think in general the ones in the town near Balcón de Europa are open and the beach restaurants down by Burriana are more likely to be closed.

Weather wise, we've had a mixed experience - one year I can recall sunbathing in my underwear as I hadn't packed swimming stuff, another year I remember wearing my padded waterproof but I would expect to be able to wear a T shirt in the day time at least a few days in the week (although early morning and evening requires a coat and probably some heating on).

We will be staying in La Carihuela (Torremolinos) during that period this year and we are a bit unsure of what will be open as this is mainly an area of beach restaurants, but I'm sure there will be plenty open in the main town .
