Looking for summer holidays still!, was thinking of Pollensa in Majorca now looking at possibly Costa Del Sol can anyone recommend anywhere nice to take hubby and two kids aged 8 and 6. Were looking to hire a villa for 2 weeks been shocked by some of the prices so far!! Not sure what part of Costa Del Sol is the best would be flying into Malaga airport. Thanks in advance.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, Lyra, that's beautiful!

Having to pay in euros bumps the price up at the moment, doesn't it - hope the rate will improve for us before long.

Is it always on request?

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2008 22:06

And this fantastic house with its own olive grove in italy for less than £500 a week.

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2008 22:08

It was on request. But it's pretty much available all year. It's let out by a lovely American lady called Nancy. The euro exchange rate might make it more expensive now though.
DP and I are actually going to ditch the DC for a weekend and go back there for the weekend if we can book it.

I live on the Costa del Sol , if you need any advice about areas let me know

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2008 22:10

i think we paid £600 a week for the France house. Flights were dirt cheap with XL.

Thanks to everyone who has given me feedback I really appreciate it I will take a look at all those websites.

We stayed in this apartment in Calahonda last year. We went with the DSs aged 14 & 18, it was brilliant for them with the pools & gym. (I spent a lot of time on the balcony!)

georgeclooneyfan · 20/04/2008 22:28

Amapoleon could you give me some advice please as to which region is better to stay in we were looking for somewhere that wasnt too far away from local amenities, walking distance of the town would be ideal not with bustling nightlife though if possible. WE would also like to take the kids to one water park, the amusement place tivoli(i think) and there was a zoo somewhere not sure how far these away from somewhere like Nerja, need to do more research I think thanks in advance.

The zoo's in Fuengirola, gcf - it's the other side of Malaga from Nerja, about an hour from one to the other by car. All the water parks etc are west of Malaga too - Nerja is east.

Andalucia.com is very helpful

I can recommend Estepona, we've stayed there and it has lots to offer.

georgeclooneyfan · 21/04/2008 17:02

Thanks OrangeKnickers will look that up as well.

I live in Estepona so I am biased but it is in a good location. It is about 50 mins from Malaga or gibraltar. it's about 40 mins from Fuengirola for the zoo or Tivoli world and Selwo marina for the dolphin show, Close to Marbella and Puerto Banus for a bit of shopping. It has Selwo a sort of safari park. There are water parks at Mijas Costa and Algerciras. Estepona town remains Spanish, it gets more touristy the closer you get to San Pedro. The only down side is that the sand isn't golden.

Close to Gibraltar for a day trip, nice villages nearby, e.g Casares, Castellar

WendyWeber · 21/04/2008 22:13

Amapoleon, that house in Estepona I linked to says it's "85km from Malaga and 45km from Gibraltar"

Is that wrong?

Amapoleon · 21/04/2008 22:24

No, it's about right. You can go on the toll road to Malaga in about 50-60 minutes and you have to drive more slowly on the N340 to Gibraltar. Depending on the time of day it takes between 30 and 40 minutes to get to Gib , also you must had border time if you drive on or off.

WendyWeber · 21/04/2008 22:47

Drive on and off - gawd, who would if they didn't have to?
