We plan to go to Slovenia next Summer. I'd love to hear your tips and thoughts for the best places you visited - going with teens. Should we also go to Croatia?

We went last summer. I was a bit underwhelmed. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I prefer the German and Austrian alps. We went to Ljubljana and Lake bled and travelled around a fair bit. I found it really expensive and didn’t rate the food at all. We also went to Rovinji in Croatia which we liked, but also found it really expensive (London prices) and I wouldn’t go back to Croatia as didn’t rate the food and eating out is such a big part of my experience. We love the alps, but won’t go to Slovenia again.

Oh, that's interesting. What was underwhelming about the scenery?

Def take them to Metelkova and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Llubljana is great for a couple of days - do the castle, river and Metelkova.

Then other day trips - Lake Bled and add in a stop to Vintgar Gorge.

Predjama castle and Postojna caves day trip too - I would do this organised because we found public transport unreliable coming home 😊

Wow, I love the look of Metelkova - that's my kind of place!

I was going to say Vintgar Gorge, haven't been but it's on my list. Check out the pics OP, close to Lake Bled as well.

Went his summer with / teens.

3 nights in Ljubljana - walking tours, boat trip, castle, lots of good food.

3 nights in Portoroz - pushed the boat out and stayed at the Kempinski which was amazing. Taxi to Piran old town for evening out (& got home and watched new movie Union which had a scene in the same square!).

Went to the Postjona caves - amazing, definitely book in advance. Had lunch in the nearby town which was so good we went back again on the way out.

Stayed in lake Bled for 4 nights. Very busy and touristy but for good reason. Had hotel on the lake with parking so just didn't use the car as we didn't need to.

4 nights in Bohinj - very chilled. Went up the cable car to Vogel mountain. Kayaking. Also did zip line trip and white water rafting.

Loved it. Best holiday pretty much ever. Lovely scenery. Easy to get around. Lots of English spoken. Good food and good wine. Will definitely go back.

The Slovenian alps are stunning of course and I loved swimming in the lakes. Lake bled is tiny. It’s pretty, but I don’t really get the hype. I expected it to be a cute little town next to it with lots of charming restaurants and was disappointed. I am the only negative voice on this thread so most likely you will love it OP.
Rovinji was pretty, but I kept thinking I should have gone to Italy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Beebumble2 · 14/09/2024 23:11

We also thought that although it was nice, other countries such as Italy and Switzerland were better.
We weren’t impressed by the food either, maybe we ate in the wrong places.
We did go on a tour to a vineyard, with lunch. We drank what we thought was Apple juice only to find that it was quite a strong cloudy cider!!

Slovenia is amazing for teens. If you stay around Bled there is loads to do. We went zipwiring through the valleys (highlight of trip), white water rafting, tobagganing down the hills, paddle boarding round the lake, swimming and diving in the lake. There is a little aqua park in the lake which is fun. We also went up the cable car to Vogel as well. Postayana (sp) caves are amazing. My teen loved them - do not miss them. Ljubljana is also very cute - and amazing food there. Was an exceptional holiday.
