So pissed off, just having a moan. Rain, rain, rain.

I arrived in Corfu last night. We looked at the weather forecast and it's basically awful until.we go home. Maybe two days of sunny intervals but the rest of the time thunderstorms, clouds, wind and rain.

I've just had a severe weather warning alert on my phone. Its been windy, cloudy, rainy all day .

We splashed out on a villa with a private pool for this week. We are self employed so as well as not earning this week we have to pay people to cover for us. We've also paid a pet sitter. I feel like crying at the cost.

I know I'm lucky to afford a holiday at all, I know that. I know people are suffering. But I feel absolutely shit that all the money is wasted. We will go out when it isn't actually raining but its really not as much fun.

I've had a few holidays in the past ruined by rain, it's just all the added expenses of this one that make it even worse.

Just needed to rant about it.

Hopefully the weather forecast is wrong and you will get some sunny days

Naumann · 09/09/2024 17:11

going to Croatia this week and looks like will be in a similar boat.

unlikely to rain constantly (fingers crossed) but yes it is annoying.

Can’t change it though so just have to make the best of it, part of risk of going in September I suppose. Worse these days when you have online forecasts at your fingertips showing how nice it is when you’re not there.

shortsaint · 17/09/2024 16:22

I'm in Corfu now and we had a bit of sun at the weekend but it's dull, cloudy, intermittently pissing it down - not even in a dramatic thunderstorm way - I'm trying to see the positive but was so looking forward to some lazy sunny days. Home Friday. It's not going to happen.

ayvasili · 17/09/2024 16:33

Do you have kids? I can imagine being cooped up with kids when you were imagining splashing around in the pool is not fun.
Make the most of it, get out when the rain stops, and do your sightseeing etc. get some truly luscious food in, laze the days away and really relax if you are alone with partner.

Movinghouseatlast · 17/09/2024 16:39

I'm home now. It rained every day apart from one.

There was no sightseeing, I've been to Corfu many times so I have seen it! it really was a beach holiday/ relaxing by the pool.at the villa/ balmy nights eating on the terrace type holiday. I swam in the sea 3 times ( once in the rain!) So it was not worth the money. We 'made the best of it' though.

It's the Med -it's a dodgy time of the year.

Well, I've been 15 times in early September and never had so much rain. The odd day yes, every day, no.

It's the same weather front that's causing floods in Austria apparently

I've had this happen before. Went to the Caribbean a couple of times and it was grey and overcast and windy the whole time.

Now we have kids we only go away in the UK and have had many wet weeks away by the sea. It also usually coincides with beautiful weather at home.

It's really really annoying.

tobee · 17/09/2024 21:19

God I'm going to the south of France next week and I'm desperately hoping the weather will be ok. Was going to go the beginning of September but I had to change my plans. Just want mostly sunshine and warm enough to swim

shortsaint · 17/09/2024 21:41

I think it is this weather front. Next week looks loads better. Fortunately I am not with kids - just friends - we're spending a lot of the time eating and drinking. But I've had a sunny hols this year, they haven't, so it's a real shame for them.

Colinswheels · 17/09/2024 21:49

That sounds really depressing OP, I hope you managed to have some fun times but an expensive holiday ruined by the weather is rotten.

It's rained all summer where I live and when we went to Jersey on holiday it rained there too. We are heading to Corfu at the start of October and I'm praying the weather picks up. I knew it was a risk at the end of the season but I didn't expect it to be as bad as it seems to have been. I have been looking forward to this holiday for 18 months and it was the top of our budget. The thought of it raining for the full week makes me feel like not bothering.

dreamingofsun · 18/09/2024 08:39

we went to malta once start of october (its too hot in aug/sept) and it did nothing but rain. roads and bars flooded, swimming pools closed. inconvenience and cost of being away from home and none of the positives. its pants.

helmettask · 18/09/2024 09:04

Gutted for you. This would really upset and depress me too. On that sort of holiday all you’ve got left when the weather is bad is food and even that’s not as enjoyable if you have to sit indoors.
its bad enough when weather spoils a uk holiday but at least that’s predictable

Perroi · 18/09/2024 14:19

I went to Lefkada in September once and had rain for a week. I think it's not unusual in the Northern Greek islands and better to go to Kos / Crete at this time of year.
It always amazes me when people post threads about going to the med in October half term which often runs into November. They expect it to be the same as July. Always someone will hop on and say it's glorious at the end of october but really it's a risk and I would go to the Canaries for a beach holiday.

Really unlucky to have a whole week of pooor weather though.

Naumann · 18/09/2024 15:11

Bad weather in a lot of Europe past week (see the floods). We’ve been unlucky too. Annoying when everything you read says that September is one of the best times to go. But nothing is guaranteed of course.

distractmeagain · 18/09/2024 15:13

not much you can do about the weather and its the chance you take no matter where you travel too...

shortsaint · 18/09/2024 19:23

For those who might be going to the Med next week I can tell you that, despite the forecast, we had a glorious sunny day today. So you never can tell.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 18/09/2024 23:24

There does seem to be bad weather a few places in the med this September. Last year we went to Sardinia and I was a bit apprehensive it would be too hot as the forecast was still 30 degrees. This year we are off to Croatia next week and looking at it being very unsettled the first few days. There's still time for it to change so keeping everything crossed !

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 18/09/2024 23:25

Actually it's the Adriatic not the Med - but you know what I mean .

Theyhadalovelytime · 18/09/2024 23:30

I really feel for you OP and everyone else who has had bad weather, it's so depressing esp if you've saved and looked forward to it for a while 😞

Perroi · 19/09/2024 10:47

I know the message is usually make the best of it you are lucky to have a holiday but if I wasn't bothered about warm sunny weather I would stay in the UK and be cold and miserable.

Anjelika · 19/09/2024 21:39

I feel for anyone who goes away at what should typically be a lovely time of year and gets rain for almost the whole time. Pre kids we always went away the first 2 weeks in September and it was (with the exception of 4 days in Menorca) always lovely. I'd be blooming gutted! We went away to Croatia July/August for 2 weeks and even then had a couple of dodgy days which I wasn't expecting. A whole week of it would have been a nightmare.

DappledOliveGroves · 19/09/2024 21:46

We’re in Croatia this week and the weather has been bloody awful. Cold, rainy, super windy. It’s certainly unusual for this time of year and I’m gutted and counting the days until we go home. We’re lucky in that we’re staying at my in-laws’ holiday home, so we haven’t had to spend a fortune coming here, but every week up until a couple of days before we arrived was sunshine and temperatures in the high 20s. Now we’re lucky if it reaches 21 with cloud 🙄.
