The Loos Bar (also known as the American Bar).

And after that, everything. It’s amazing, wonderful and you’ll have an extraordinary time!

getmeavodka · 21/08/2024 18:08

Eating Sachertorte in the original cafe. Pricey but delicious

yorktown · 21/08/2024 18:11

If you like architecture, look for the Hundertwasser buildings, so beautiful.

And yeah, sacher torte.

bluecomputerscreen · 21/08/2024 18:11

sacher torte is definitely on the list!

Hotel Sacher for Sachertorte. Cathedral. Schonbrunn palace.

honkifyalikebeans · 21/08/2024 18:15

Freud museum if you're into that kind of thing

iNoticed · 21/08/2024 18:17

Cathedral. We went to a swimming spot on the Danube too which was amazing.

Don't worry about not having a car. Austria, like many other European countries but unlike the UK, has functional public transport. A few acquaintances live there.

None of them have cars because they don't need them. They use trains, trams or bikes to get around.

Beautiful city, trams ect are very easy to use. We got the train to Bratislava for the day as well. They water in the city is from springs in the mountains so all of the drinks taste awesome, local produce is very popular there so the food is very good.

Summer or winter? There are so many amazing things to do. In the summer then Donauinsel (the island on the Danube for walks, cycles, beers by the water. The Prater and the Republik of Kuegelmuegel the rathausplatz used to have summer music and good atalls that were great for the evening. All year round, the cathedral, riding school, Schloss Schoenbrunn, Siebenstern Brau for beer, Hudertwasser Haus and the Kunsthaus, Belvedere for Klimt, the Secession building for the Beethoven Frieze. In the winter then the Rathausplatz for Christmas markets before Christmas and skating after Christmas.

BeaRF75 · 21/08/2024 18:57

Schonbrunn is out of town - easy to get to by train, but allow a full day.
Hofburg Palace is in the city centre.
Best galleries are the Albertina and the Belvedere. Also, if you like Klimt, the Secessionist Museum.

Lots of fab cafes - Cafe Central is busy, you may need to queue. I like Leopold Hawelka, which us very old-school and cosy, with rickety wooden chairs and lots of newspapers.

It's a lovely city, but you won'tsee everything in one trip - just walk and enjoy the architecture.
