Hi - wondering if you can help. We are travelling from the west coast of Scotland to Oxfordshire in October and would like to stop somewhere for a couple of nights on the way (don't mind taking a easterly detour for the right place).

My husband would like to go somewhere with old charm and nice bakeries - and my son would like somewhere with indoor activities fairly locally if the weather is bad.

Would rather stay somewhere we don't need to drive right into a city centre.

We are open to all suggestions - thank you.

Absolute bargain offers. Make sure you mention autumn deal if you book as lots more to book online. 12 miles from York and close to park and ride. £159 for 2 nights and dinner first night. Huby village has a fantastic Cantonese and pub called the Mended drum.

I should stop telling people though as when I go to book it's sometimes near impossible. October should be OK?

That looked great but son is only 9 so I need a room that fits 3 which it doesn't look like it has. The deal is amazing though - it's only £139 in October!

That's even cheaper. Shame they don't do family rooms.

I know - or I would have booked up as it completely fits the bill for a decent price.

Lakes in October may be very wet
